Israel's most advanced port was completed and officially opened in September
2021-07-29 14:07

According to local Israeli media reports, the new Israeli port Haifa (Gulf Port of Haifa) is scheduled to open on September 1, which will trigger a new pattern of competition among Israeli ports. It is reported that the new port Haifa is one of Israel's major infrastructure construction projects. The government invested 5 billion NIS, which took 15 years to build. The port is built entirely on the sea, with a dock length of 800 meters, 17.3 meters below sea level, and is connected to the Haifa coast. The opening of Haifa Port will change the entire trade import and export pattern. According to Yitzhak Blumenthal, CEO of Israel Ports, it is the newest port in the world, equipped with the most advanced port equipment. "This will have a profound impact on everyone, from manufacturers to ordinary consumers, and it will lead to a reduction in the cost of living, because almost all products, including raw materials needed by Israeli industry, have to pass through the seaport." The new port is built near the existing Haifa Port in Israel. The port is currently the largest port in the country. It is built by two Israeli companies: Shapir Engineering and Ashtrom. In the next 25 years, it will be managed by China Shanghai International Port Group, and SIPG It is one of the largest shipping management companies in the world. The new Haifa port will be the most advanced port in Israel and the only port that can quickly unload large ships up to 400 meters in length and 62 meters in width, and can load up to 18,000 containers. As part of the port reform in 2005, another new port in Ashdod is also expected to be completed later this year. According to the Israeli Ports Corporation, Israel’s seaports handle more than 99% of the country’s trade, and the new Haifa port will encourage competition, lower consumer prices, and transform the entire economy. The completion of the new port coincides with a period of congestion facing global shipping ports, and Israeli ports are also suffocatingly congested. With global delays related to the renovation project, Israeli terminals were unable to hire enough employees to work due to labor disputes between the Histadrut union and the port. In addition, the new port will become an important growth engine for the northern region of the country, especially Haifa. According to the Israeli Port Company, the operation of the port will employ thousands of people and provide approximately 1.5 billion NIS for the local economy.
