HMM casts 3 more temporary ships to support exports

According to news on May 12, South Korean shipping company HMM (formerly Hyundai Merchant Marine) said on the 12th that in order to support Korean companies facing export difficulties during the epidemic, the company decided to put three more temporary ships on the American route from Busan Port. As a result, HMM has added 24 additional ships. Among the three freighters, a 6,800 TEU container ship "HMM Shanghai" will set off on the same day. More than 60% of the cargo on board will come from South Korean medium-sized backbones and small and medium-sized enterprises. HMM will ship another 1,800 TEU multi-purpose vessel on the 19th. The ship "Eurasia", which will arrive at the Port of Savannah in the United States on the 14th of next month. The third 6300 TEU class "HMM Oakland" will depart for Los Angeles on the 23rd. It is reported that due to the recent sharp increase in freight volume and the shortage of container ships, the company has also urgently invested other ships for export and logistics support this time. HMM has previously deployed 21 temporary ships on the West Coast of America (12 ships) and East Coast (3 ships), Russia (3 ships), Europe (2 ships), and Vietnam (1 ship) routes. HMM also stated on the same day that, out of humanitarian considerations, the company will use all ships destined for India to ship medical supplies such as oxygen cylinders for the treatment of COVID-19 with priority, and that the corresponding supplies will only charge $1 for shipping per box.
